Biographies
Video biographies often have a tendency to make us think of the genre of documentaries. However, they can also fall under other categories such as entertainment.

In this activity students will explore planning, videotaping and editing by creating a 50 to 60 second biography about himself or herself.
Types of Biographies:
- Autobiography –Nonfictional story about the life of the person telling the story.
- Biography – Nonfictional story about the life of someone other than the person telling the story.
- Memoir – Nonfictional story about someone that only covers a short time span or one significant event of a person (told by the person in the story, or someone else).
Creating Your Biography:
The Biography should be 50 - 60 seconds and tell about you.
Be Creative!
1st Step: Plan!
- Think about what you want your biography to say.
- Think about how your video is going to say it.
- Planning stages include story-boarding and script writing. You can write out what you are going to say and sketch out different scenes, planning out how you are going to put it all together. Here you decide if you will use animation, interview style taping of yourself or others, photos and voice-overs, artistic film shots, dolls or puppets, or anything else you would like to incorporate.
- In this step you can decide what should go first, then next and so on.
2nd Step: Video!
- Get all of the video footage you will need to put your biography together.
3rd Step: Edit!
- After you have all footage, photos and audio needed, now it’s time to edit and put it all together!
- This is the last phase and also the phase where you can fine-tune your planning. During videoing you might have gotten a better idea for your video than what you initially planned.
- This phase is kind of like the final cut. Here you can be even more creative because you can see everything in front of you.
