Creating a Storyboard
Creating a quality video is more than just going out and shooting raw footage. How do you know what to shoot? How will you get your ideas across to the viewer? The best way is to plan your shots before ever picking up the camera. To plan, you use a storyboard.
A storyboard is a collection of illustrations and text that represent what will be seen and heard in the finish video production. The storyboard allows you to set your out your ideas in a logical and concrete manner. You need to consider factors as sequence, characters, scripting, sound, lighting, props, and editing effects. The storyboard allows you to collect your ideas in one place.
The process of creating a storyboard will allow you to carefully plan out your video production project. Storyboarding will provide you with the opportunity to create, script, and develop your ideas.
While some of the planning of video productions is now done directly on a computer, the traditional method of creating a storyboard is done with paper and pencil. Key ideas and concepts are sketched out and the main idea of each shot is listed. Look at the example.

The storyboard serves as guide. It allows for brainstorming of ideas. Once the ideas are worked out, the actual recording of your video is done.
